The Kilimanjaro Co-operative Bank Limited (KCBL) is a Regional Bank. It was registered as a Co-operative Society in 1994 under the provisions of section 30 of the Co-operative Societies Act No. 15 of 1991. It was later granted a license to operate as a Bank in 1995, under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act of 1991. Banking operations commenced on July 10, 1996.

The shareholders of KCBL are registered Co-operative Societies in Kilimanjaro Region. The Bank's initial capital was subscribed to by the Primary Co-operative Societies (RCS), the Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies (SACCOS), the Unions (KNCU and VUASU) and G32 KNCI Ltd.
